NBC Sports to broadcast USFL games in 2022

On Wednesday, NBC Sports reached a multi-year agreement to broadcast the United States Football League (USFL) for the 2022 season. USFL is owned by FOX Sports.

NBC Sports joins FOX Sports as the official broadcast partner of the USFL is set to broadcast 43 games next year.

As part of the deal, NBC Sports will broadcast 21 games on NBC (8), USA Network (9), and Peacock (4), while FOX Sports will broadcast 22 games. The USFL Schedule will be released at a later date. Each team will play a ten-game schedule followed by the playoffs. The top two teams in both divisions will play in the semifinals, followed by the championship game.

NBC Sports Chairman Pete Bevacqua on adding the USFL said. “We’re excited to partner with the USFL and FOX Sports to present this new era of professional football. With our multiple platforms across broadcast, cable, and streaming, football fans throughout the country will be able to experience the USFL’s opening season this spring.”

Next season, the USFL will have eight teams split into two divisions. The North Division will feature the Michigan Panthers, Philadelphia Stars, New Jersey Generals, and the Pittsburgh Maulers, while the South Division will have the New Orleans Breakers, Tampa Bay Bandits, Birmingham Stallons, and Houston Gamblers.

FOX Sports CEO and Executive Producer Eric Shanks on NBC broadcasting the USFL said. “We’re thrilled to have NBC Sports join FOX Sports as an official media partner of the new USFL. Like FOX, NBC has a reputation for excellence in football production, and the exposure both companies have committed to the USFL, including a combined 20 games on broadcast television, will provide fans unprecedented access all season long.”

Last month, the USFL named Eric Shanks as Chairman of the USFL’s Board of Directors, Brian Woods as the President of Football Operations, Daryl Johnston as Executive Vice President, Football Operations, Mike Pereira as the Head of Officiating, and Edward Hartman, Executive Vice President, Business Operations.
