Avalanche Andretti, a team competing in the Formula E series, announced that Oliver Askew will drive full-time in 2022. He becomes the first American to drive full-time in the series. Formula E will enter its eighth season.
The 25-year-old from Melbourne, Florida, ran five races this year with Arrow McLarin SP, Ed Carpenter Racing, and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. His highest finish was ninth place at Laguna Seca.
He also competed in IMSA with Riley Motorsports, Forty7 Motorsports, and Andretti Motorsports. In January, with Riley Motorsports, Askew won the Rolex 24 at Daytona in the LMP3 class.
In his rookie year in 2020, Askew competed in twelve races for Arrow McLarin SP, with one podium finish at Iowa Speedway finishing third.
In 2019, Askew raced for Andretti Autosport in the Indy Lights Series, winning seven poles, seven wins, and fifteen podium finishes on his way to winning the championship.
Oliver Askew on joining Andretti said. “I am beyond excited to return home and join Andretti Autosport full-time again for the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. I consider Andretti Autosport family, and to be able to attack this chapter in my career with them means more than words can describe.”
Askew added, “To have a partner like Avalanche with us could not be a more perfect fit. Being the only confirmed driver to represent the United States in Formula E is something I am very proud of. I look forward to getting to work as soon as possible.”
Michael Andretti on adding Askew said, “We’re happy to welcome Oliver back to the Andretti family to round out our Formula E driver lineup. We had a lot of success with Oliver back in 2019 when he won the Indy Lights Championship with us, and we’re looking forward to introducing him to Formula E.”
Andretti added, “He’s a hard worker and races smart, we’re confident he’ll apply that to this new opportunity. We’re also pretty excited to be able to field the first full-time American driver in such an exciting, international series.”
Askew will make his Formula E debut on January 28th with the Diriyah E-Prix in Saudi Arabia. The Formula E Series can be seen on CBS and CBS Sports Network.
