On Tuesday, the Edmonton Elks named CFL Hall of Famer Geroy Simon as the new Assistant General Manager. Simon spent seven seasons with the BC Lions front office as a Director for Global Scouting and US Regional Scout.

The 45-year-old from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, won three Grey Cup championships with the BC Lions twice and the Roughriders once. He played 238 games in 15 seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He caught 1,029 passes for 16,352 yards, 103 touchdowns, 23 carries for 194 yards, and one touchdown.

While with the Lions, Simon set franchise records for receptions (904), receiving yards (14,756), and touchdowns (93).

Elks head coach Chris Jones on Simon joining the team said. “I first met Geroy at the NFL Combine three years ago in Indianapolis, and after getting to know him, I knew he’d be a great fit if I ever got the chance to hire him. I’m excited about the opportunity to have someone with his CFL experience join our group, as he brings a great skill set to our staff and has learned from one of the best in Wally Buono during his time in B.C.”

Jones added, “Geroy is going to play an important role as we rebuild the organization and get it back to a perennial Grey Cup contender.”

Geroy Simon on joining the Elks said, “I’m happy to be a part of a storied organization that’s won so many championships. It’s a great organization in the CFL, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Chris to try and win a championship.”

Simon added, “Edmonton’s been a thorn in my side during many of my hears in the CFL, so I’m happy to join the club and get to work.”

The Elks open the 2022 season on the road against the BC Lions on Saturday, June 11th.
