Edmonton Elks release eleven players, including OL Derek Dennis

Edmonton Elks

The Edmonton Elks released eleven players on Tuesday, including offensive lineman Derek Dennis and running back Terry Williams. Both players were on the Calgary Stampeders 2018 Grey Cup championship team.

Derek Dennis did not play for the Elks. He signed with Edmonton in January of 2021 but decided to step away from football to focus on family. Dennis would later reveal that he was unhappy with the terms of his contract. Dennis played 72 games in five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Terry Williams played nine games for the Elks with five carries for five yards and four catches for 20 yards. Williams played 43 games in four seasons with 125 carries for 709 yards, five touchdowns, and 21 catches for 240 yards.

On special teams, Williams had 154 punt returns for 1,629 yards and three touchdowns. During the 2018 Grey Cup, Williams returned a 97-yard punt return for a touchdown.

The CFL free agency begins on February 8th.
