The Calgary Stampeders re-signed defensive lineman Folarin Orimolade to a one-year extension on Wednesday. Orimolade was scheduled to be a free agent on February 8th.

Folarin Orimolade played seven games in 2021 with eight tackles, one special teams tackle, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Folarin Orimolade on re-signing with the Stampeders said, “Thanks be to Jesus for another chance to play the game I love. I appreciate Huff and the entire Calgary organization continuing to back me even with my past injuries. Ready to help bring Calgary another championship.”

Orimolade signed with the Stampeders in 2018 after spending time with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie in 2017.

In 2018, Orimolade played ten games with seven tackles, ten special teams tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles as the Stampeders won the Grey Cup that year over the Ottawa Redblacks. Orimolade missed the 2019 season due to a quadriceps injury.

John Hufnagel, President and General Manager of the Stampeders on re-signing Orimolade said. “Flo has worked very hard during his Stampeders career to overcome some unfortunate injuries, and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in a full and healthy season. When he has been able to get on the field during his time in Calgary, he has shown that he can be a productive and important player for our defense.”

Before turning pro, Orimolade played 39 colligate games in four seasons (2013-16) at Dartmouth with 143 tackles, 23.5 sacks, ten forced fumbles, and eight pass breakups. His 23.5 sacks were Big Green’s second-highest sack total in history. He was named Ivy League’s defensive player of the year in 2016 and a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award as the best defensive player.
