On Thursday, the Calgary Stampeders re-signed wide receiver Reggie Begelton to a one-year contract extension worth $167,000 and included a $30,000 signing bonus.
Reggie Begelton played three games for the Stampeders in 2021, including the Western Semi-Final with nine catches for 133-yards, one touchdown, and one carry for 21-yards.
Before joining the Stampeders in 2017, he played 46 games in four seasons at Lamar University. He caught 227 passes for 2,435 yards and 20 touchdowns. He graduated as the Cardinals’ all-time leader in catches and touchdowns. He was selected to first-team all-Southland Conference in 2015 and a second-team selection in 2013 and 2014.
John Hufnagel, President and General Manager on re-signing Begelton said, “Reggie provided a boost to our team when he returned late in the year, and I’m pleased that he will be back again in 2022. He has established himself as one of the premier receivers in the CFL, and we’re looking forward to a great season from him.”
Begelton joined the Stampeders in 2017 after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. In 35 career games with the Stampeders, Begelton has 158 catches for 2,369 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five carries for 59 yards and one touchdown. He was part of the Stampeders 2018 Grey Cup championship team.
Reggie Begelton on returning to the Stampeders said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift – that’s why it’s called the present! I’m truly blessed to be back in Red and White. Let’s ride all the way to the Cup – Go Stamps Go!”
After Begelton’s first run with the Stampeders ended after the 2019 season, he was on the Green Bay Packers practice squad for two seasons.
