Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-sign DL Willie Jefferson and DE Jackson Jeffcoat

On Friday, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed defensive lineman Willie Jefferson and defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat to one-year contract extensions. Both players were set to become free agents on February 8th.

Willie Jefferson played 14 games in 2021 with 18 tackles; one special teams tackle, seven sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, and three forced fumbles. His stats earned him the 2021 CFL All-Star and CFL West All-Star.

Jefferson will enter his eighth year in the CFL, third with the Blue Bombers. In 108 career games, Jefferson has 169 tackles, two special teams tackles, 50 sacks, five interceptions, four touchdowns, and 15 forced fumbles.

Jefferson began his CFL career with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2014. In his first season, he had 17 tackles and four sacks. Jefferson played two seasons with the Eskimos before joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders for three seasons.

In 2019, he signed with the Blue Bombers, helping them win two Grey Cup championships. Jefferson won three Grey Cup titles for Edmonton in 2015 and Winnipeg in 2019 and 2021.

Jackson Jeffcoat played 12 games in 2021 with 26 tackles, nine sacks, and four forced fumbles on his way to winning his second Grey Cup championship with the Blue Bombers. He is the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Jim Jeffcoat of the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeffcoat will enter his fifth season with the Blue Bombers. In 52 career games, Jeffcoat has 106 tackles, three special teams tackles, 26 sacks, one interception, and nine forced fumbles. In 2021, Jeffcoat was named a CFL All-Star and CFL West All-Star.

Before joining the Blue Bombers, Jeffcoat had stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, and Cleveland Browns. While with the Redskins in 2014 and 2015, he played nine games with seven tackles, one sack, and one interception.
