On Monday, the Ottawa Redblacks signed former Edmonton Elks offensive lineman Jake Ruby to a two-year contract that will keep him with the Redblacks through the 2023 season.
Jake Ruby played the first three games of the 2021 season with the Edmonton Elks before being released due to violating COVID-19 protocols.
Ruby on signing with the Redblacks said, “I am extremely excited and proud to be an Ottawa REDBLACK. I want to thank Shawn Burke and Coach LaPolice for making this decision an easy one. I can’t wait to get to work for RNation. Go REDBLACKS!”
The Montreal Alouettes drafted Jake Ruby in the first round (8th pick) of the 2015 CFL Draft out of the University of Richmond. Ruby has played 63 career games with the Montreal Alouettes (2015-16) and the Edmonton Eskimos/Elks (2017-2021).
Ottawa Redblacks General Manager Shawn Burke on signing Ruby said, “Having skilled Canadians on the offensive line is critical in the CFL, and we’re thrilled to be able to add a veteran presence like Jacob Ruby to our group. Jacob brings size and experience to our front five and will be a great fit with what we’re building here.”
The Redblacks open the 2022 season Friday, June 10th, against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
