On Wednesday, the Winnipeg Blue Bomber re-signed offensive lineman Chris Kolankowski to a two-year contract extension through the 2023 season. The Blue Bombers also released defensive end Jonathan Kongbo to pursue an opportunity in the NFL.
Chris Kolankowski spent most of the 2021 season on the practice squad. He suited up for two regular-season games in Montreal and Calgary and suited up for Winnipeg in the 108th Grey Cup in Hamilton as the Blue Bombers won their second Grey Cup title.
Kolankowski was drafted in the sixth round (49th pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts out of York University. He was a backup during the 2017 season in which the Argonauts won the 105th Grey Cup over the Calgary Stampeders.
Jonathan Kongbo played 14 games in 2021 with 16 tackles, one special teams tackles, and three sacks.
The Blue Bombers drafted Kongbo in the first round (5th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
In two seasons with the Blue Bombers, Kongbo played 26 games with 28 tackles, one special teams tackle, and four sacks.
