The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed offensive lineman Ka’John Armstrong and running back/returner Shamar Moreland to one-year contracts on Thursday. The team also released fullback Alexandre Dupuis.
Ka’John Armstrong was on the Roughriders practice squad in 2021. In 2019, he signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan. Armstrong suited up in three preseason games with the Atlanta Falcons. He also had brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos.
At Eastern Michigan, Armstrong played 43 games in four seasons (2015-18) as a left tackle and left guard. In 2016, the Eagles allowed the second-fewest tackles for loss in the FBS. They also set a school record with 5,917 yards on offense.
Shamar Moreland joins the Roughriders after four strong seasons at Ottawa University in Arizona (2018-21). Morland played 28 games with 332 carries for 2,256 yards, 32 touchdowns, 58 catches for 641 yards, and five touchdowns.
On special teams, Moreland had 67 kickoff returns for 1,895 yards, four touchdowns, 51 punt returns for 811 yards, and five touchdowns.
In Moreland’s senior year, he was named Sooner Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and First Team All-Sooner at running back, kick returner and punt returner. Moreland led the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) with an average of 212.6 all-purpose yards per game, was ranked third in the nation with a 30.9 yards per kick return average.
Alexandre Dupuis played 11 games in 2021 with three catches for 12-yards and one touchdown in his only season with the Roughriders.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Dupuis in the fourth round (36th pick) of the 2014 CFL Draft out of the University of Montreal.
He’s played in 86 career games for the Toronto Argonauts (2014-16), Edmonton Eskimos (2017-18), and the Roughriders (2021) with 27 catches for 267 yards, and one touchdown.
