The Calgary Stampeders re-signed wide receiver Colton Hunchak to a one-year extension on Friday. He was scheduled to become a free agent on February 8th.

Colton Hunchak played 14 games in 2021 with 16 catches for 247 yards. In 2019, he caught 16 passes for 231 yards. He suffered a foot injury in the 2021 Western Semifinal against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Stampeders drafted Hunchak in the eighth round (73rd pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft out of York University.

Hunchak on returning to the Stampeders said, “I am grateful to be returning to the Stampeders for the 2022 season. This organization gave me a chance and opportunity when no one else did, so I owe it to them and this city to help bring a Grey Cup back to Calgary.”

Hunchak added how rehab was going on his foot. “The rehab process with regards to my foot injury is exceeding expectations. I have a great team of trainers and therapists working alongside me. Without a doubt, I will be full-go come training camp.”

John Hufnagel, President and General Manager of the Stampeders, was glad to re-sign Hunchak. I’m pleased that Colton is remaining with the Stampeders and his return strengthens our depth at the Canadian receiver position. I know he is working hard to rehab the injury he suffered in the playoff game, and I look forward to his continued progression as a CFL receiver.”

In 28 career games, Hunchak has caught 32 passes for 478 yards. The Stampeders open the 2022 season on Thursday, June 8th, against the Montreal Alouettes.
