On Friday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats locked up offensive lineman Chris Van Zeyl to a two-year contract extension, keeping him to the 2023 season. Zeyl was scheduled to be a free agent on February 8th.
Chris Van Zeyl played seven games in 2021 and was named a CFL East All-Star for the seventh time in his career. Hamilton’s offensive line played a key role in the Tiger-Cats getting back to their second straight Grey Cup.
Hamilton’s quarterbacks combined for 297-435 for 3,574 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. The Tiger-Cats rushing attack had 269 carries for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns.
In his career, Zeyl played 180 games in 13 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. This will be his third season in Hamilton.
He is a two-time Grey Cup champion with Toronto, a three-time CFL All-Star, and a seven-time CFL East All-Star.
In 2019, he was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award. The Montreal Alouettes drafted Zeyl in the third round (18th pick) in the 2007 CFL Draft out of McMaster University.
