2015 Grey Cup Champion Dexter McCoil Sr. announces retirement

On Monday, two-time CFL West All-Star, CFL All-Star, Jackie Parker Award winner, and a member of the 2015 Edmonton Eskimos Grey Cup championship team, Dexter McCoil Sr., announced his retirement.

Dexter McCoil Sr. wraps up a four-year CFL career that started in 2014 with the Edmonton Eskimos. He played 36 games in two seasons (2014-15) with 134 tackles, 17 special teams tackles, six sacks, nine interceptions, two touchdowns, and one forced fumble.

Dexter McCoil Sr. went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Tulsa. He tried out for the Oakland Raiders but was one of the pre-season final cuts. Then, McCoil went to the Arena Football League for the Los Angeles Kiss. He played five games with 25 tackles, 0.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one interception, and one touchdown.

McCoil left the CFL for the NFL with the San Diego Chargers in 2016. He played 16 games with 25 tackles, five pass blocks, and one interception.

In 2017, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers and played ten games with five tackles. He returned to the Chargers, now in Los Angeles in 2018 on their practice squad.

In 2019, he returned to the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders playing two games with two tackles, three special teams tackles, and one interception.

In 2020, McCoil played five games for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL with 36 tackles and one sack before the league suspended operations. McCoil returned to the CFL in 2021 with the Toronto Argonauts, playing 11 games with 60 tackles, nine special teams tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and one touchdown.

McCoil played 49 career CFL games with 196 tackles, 29 special teams tackles, eight sacks, 12 interceptions, three touchdowns, and one forced fumble.
