On Monday, the Calgary Stampeders re-signed defensive tackles Mike Rose and Derek Wiggan to two-year contract extensions through the 2023 season. They were scheduled to be free agents on February 8th.
Mike Rose played 13 games this year with 24 tackles and seven sacks in his fourth season with the Stampeders. In 33 career games, Rose has 75 tackles, four special teams tackles, 12 sacks, and one forced fumble. Mike Rose, after signing the extension said, “Let’s win.”
In his sixth season with the Stampeders, Derek Wiggan (29-years-old) played 14 games with 32 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble. The Stampeders drafted Wiggan in the fourth round (34th pick) in the 2014 CFL Draft out of Queen’s.
Wiggan was happy to re-sign with the Stampeders. “I’m extremely happy to get the deal done – Calgary is the only place I wanted to be. I really appreciate the love that the Stampeders organization and the city has shown me. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates and coaches.”
In 92 career games, Wiggan has 121 tackles, six special teams tackles, 14 sacks, one interception, and three forced fumbles.
John Hufnagel, President and General Manager of the Stampeders, on re-signing both Rose and Wiggan said. “Derek and Mike have been a very effective tandem in the middle of our defensive line, and I’m pleased that they have chosen to make this commitment to the Stampeders. Both players continue to get better, with Mike earning well-deserved CFL all-star recognition last season.”
