On Thursday, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed Grey Cup MVP quarterback Zach Collaros to a one-year contract extension. He will enter his third season with the Blue Bombers.
Zach Collaros played 13 games with 243 completed passes for 3,185 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions, and ten carries for 63 yards.
Collaros led the Blue Bombers to their second consecutive Grey Cup championship over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-25 and was named MVP. He is a three-time Grey Cup champion, two with Winnipeg and one as a backup quarterback in Toronto.
Collaros went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After being released by Tampa Bay, Collaros joined the Toronto Argonauts. He played four games with seven completions for 101 yards, one touchdown, and four carries for 17 yards.
Collaros spent two seasons with the Argo’s before joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2014. He played 13 games in his first season for the Tiger-Cats with 279 completions for 3,261 yards, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 57 carries for 328 yards, and two touchdowns. He led the Ticats to the 102nd Grey Cup in a losing effort against the Calgary Stampeders.
Collaros spent an additional three seasons in Hamilton before being traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 2019, Collaros suffered a concussion in the first week of the season and didn’t return. He was traded to the Argonauts but never played a down due to injury.
In October 2019, the Argonauts dealt Collaros to the Blue Bombers for a 2020 fifth-round pick and the rest was history. In 105 career games, Collaros has 1,626 completions for 20,164 yards, 114 touchdowns, 58 interceptions, 200 carries for 1,029 yards, and eight touchdowns.
