Four-time CFL All-Star Kicker Rene Paredes returns to Stampeders

On Tuesday, the Calgary Stampeders re-signed kicker Rene Paredes to a one-year contract extension. Paredes was scheduled to be a free agent on February 8th.

Rene Paredes played 14 games in 2021, making 44 of 48 field goals (91.7%), with his longest field goal being 52-yards. In 2021, Paredes became the tenth kicker in CFL history to make 400 career field goals when he kicked six field goals against Edmonton.

Rene Paredes on returning to Calgary said, “Calgary is home. My family and I are excited to be back and continue my football career with this amazing organization. After ten years, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Time to get to work and bring the Cup back to Calgary.”

Paredes joined the Blue Bombers as an undrafted free agent from Concordia. After being released by Blue Bombers, he signed with the Stampeders.

Parades has played 175 games in his ten-year career, making 440 of 504 field goals (87.3%), with the longest field goal for 52-yards. Paredes has won two Grey Cup championships (2014,2018), a 2013 John Agro Special Teams Award winner, a four-time CFL All-Star, and a five-time CFL West All-Star.

Calgary Stampeders President and General Manager John Hufnagel on re-signing Paredes said. “Rene has consistently proven himself to be one of the most dependable kickers in the CFL, and we’re pleased to have him back for another season.”
