On Tuesday, the Montreal Alouettes re-signed wide receiver/punt returner Mario Alford to a one-year contract extension through the 2022 season.
Mario Alford played five games in 2021, with one catch for 14 yards. On special teams, Alford had 17 punt returns for 268 yards and one touchdown.
On re-signing Alford, Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia said, “Mario is an electrifying player who adds a whole new dimension to our team when he is in uniform. He was injured during last season, and we missed him. We are confident that he will be back and play at a high level and greatly help us next season.”
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Alford in the seventh round (238th pick) in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played one game for the Bengals, catching one ball for 15-yards. Alford had stints with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears.
In 2018, Alford signed with the Toronto Argonauts. He played six games with seven catches for 57-yards and one carry for ten yards.
In 14 career games with the Argonauts (2018) and Alouettes (2019, 2021), Alford has eight catches for 71 yards and one carry for ten yards. On special teams, he has 31 punt returns for 493 yards, three touchdowns, and 30 kickoff returns for 607 yards.
In addition to Alford’s signing, the Alouettes signed wide receiver Krishawn Hogan.
Krishawn Hoganmspent time with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in 2021. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent from Marian University. In the NFL, Hogan also tried out for the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Arizona Cardinals.
At Marian University, Hogan played 40 games in three seasons with 263 catches for 4,395 yards, 42 touchdowns, 63 carries for 170 yards, and 25 touchdowns.
