On Thursday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and wide receiver Brandon Banks agreed to mutually part ways. Banks spent eight seasons with the Tiger-Cats.

Brandon Banks played ten games in 2021 with 44 catches for 474-yards, two touchdowns, and seven carries for 64-yards. On special teams, Banks had 15 punt returns for 95 yards and five kickoff returns for 84 yards.

“Thank you to one of the best organizations I’ve been a part of for making me into the man I am today,” said Banks. “Thank you for the opportunities, thank you for believing in me, and thank you for fighting for me, even when I was wrong. I want to personally thank Mr. Caretaker Bob Young, Mr. Scott Mitchell, Shawn Burke, Coach O, Coach Jones, Coach Austin, and all the coaches who were with me for this journey.”

After spending three years with the Washington Redskins, Banks made the jump to the CFL, signing with the Tiger-Cats in 2013. He made an immediate impact.

Banks played 111 games for the Tiger-Cats with 422 catches for 5,678 yards, 44 touchdowns, 70 carries for 407-yards, and five touchdowns. On special teams, Banks returned 298 punts for 3,049 yards, seven touchdowns, 184 kickoff returns for 3,773 yards, and one touchdown. In addition, banks returned 17 missed field goals for 77-yards and five touchdowns.

“It has been extremely difficult to write this. I’ve been a part of the CFL for over 20 years, and when I think of dynamic and impactful players, Brandon Banks is at the top of the list.  Brandon has been both a Ticats fan favorite and a CFL fan favorite, who constantly leaves you in disbelief of what he is able to do on a football field,” said Tiger-Cats head coach Orlondo Steinauer. “There is no easy or comforting way to say that we have mutually parted ways. Speedy has embraced Hamilton and has brought so much joy to the city since 2013.  I have so much respect for Brandon as a person and have admired competitive nature and his desire to win since my days as the defensive coordinator in Hamilton.”
