On Friday, the Edmonton Elks signed former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and wide receiver Pharoah McKever to one-year contracts.
J.T. Barrett recently played for the Alphas of The Spring League. Barrett signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent from Ohio State. He had tryouts for the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A standout at Ohio State, Barrett played 50 games (2013-17) with 769 completions for 9,434 yards, 104 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, 656 carries for 3,263 yards, and 43 touchdowns. Barrett is a three-time First Team All Big-Ten (2014,2016,2017), Offensive MVP in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl and 2017 Cotton Bowl, three-time Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year (2014,2016,2017), and a 2014 Thompson–Randle El Freshman of the Year.
In 2015, Barrett led Ohio State to the first CFP National Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, defeating Chip Kelly and the Oregon Ducks 42-20.
Pharoah McKever (27-years-old) recently played three games for the Tampa Bay Vipers in the XFL. McKever signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of FIU. In 2018, he was on the practice squad of both the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
McKever spent four seasons at N.C. State (2013-16) before transferring to FIU (2017), playing 13 games with 27 catches for 301-yards and three touchdowns.
