On Friday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced that three-time CFL All-Star Simoni Lawrence has re-signed with the team with a one-year contract extension.
Simoni Lawrence played 14 games in 2021 with 73 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and two touchdowns. This will be Lawrence’s ninth season in Hamilton.
On Lawrence re-signing with the team, Tiger-Cats President of Football Operations and Head Coach Orlondo Steinauer said, “Simoni’s energy and personality is infectious. He is an all-time Tiger-Cat and an all-time person, and we could not be happier that he and his family have chosen to remain in Hamilton and with the Tiger-Cats organization.”
Lawrence, a native of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota. Lawrence spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Minnesota Vikings. Lawrence also played for the Hartford Colonials and Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL (United Football League).
In 2012, Lawrence took his talents to the CFL, signing with the Edmonton Eskimos. He spent one season with the Eskimos before joining the Tiger-Cats in 2013. Lawrence has played in 142 career games with 606 tackles, 18 special teams tackles, 30 sacks, 14 interceptions, three touchdowns, and 14 forced fumbles.
Simoni Lawrence is a three-time CFL All-Star (2015,2019,2021), four-time CFL East All-Star (2014-16, 2019, 2021), and a three-time James P. McCaffrey Trophy to the outstanding defensive player in the East Division.
