Current and Former Lehigh Valley Phantoms in this year’s Beijing Olympics 2022

With the 2022 Beijing Olympics just around the corner, one current and several former Phantoms players are headed to the Olympics after the NHL elected not to play in the games.

One current Phantoms player and several former players are headed to the Olympics to represent their counties. The Beijing Olympics for hockey starts on Wednesday, February 9th.

The United States hockey starts its Group A Preliminary Round on Thursday, February 10th. Here is a breakdown of the current and former Phantoms players and where they are now.

United States:

Pat Nagle (G)- Pat Nagle earned his first career shutout against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night. This season, he’s played for the Phantoms and the Reading Royals. Nagle is 7-0-3-1 with 224 saves in 22 games for the Phantoms and 7-2-3 with 393 saves for the Royals.

Andy Miele (F)- played for the Phantoms during the 2016-17 season, played 65 games with 13 goals and 44 assists (57-points).

Miele currently plays for the Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) with 13 goals and 23 assists (36-points) in his second year. All KHL games can be seen on ESPN+.

Denmark:

Oliver Lauridsen (D)- played 264 games with the Phantoms from 2010-15, scoring nine goals and 25 assists (34-points).  He was the Flyers seventh round (196th pick) in the 2009 NHL Draft. Lauridsen played one game for the Flyers.

Today, Lauridsen plays for the Malmö Redhawks (SHL) with three goals (3-points) in 33 games in his second season.

Switzerland:

Christian Marti (D)- played one season with the Phantoms (2015-16) with one assist in 27 games and played two games for the Reading Royals. Today, Marti plays for the ZSC Lions (NL) with two goals and eight assists (10-points) in his sixth season.

Germany:

Marcel Noebels (LW/C)- played 95 games in two seasons (2012-13,2013-14) with the Phantoms when they were in Adirondack, scoring 16 goals and 18 assists (34-points). The Flyers drafted Noebels in the fourth round (118th pick) in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Today, Noebels plays for the Eisbären Berlin (DEL) with 16 goals and 29 assists (45-points) in his eighth year.

Sweden:

Erik Gustafsson (D) played three seasons with the Phantoms (2009-13), scoring 13 goals and 82 assists (95-points) in 144 games. Gustafsson played four seasons in Philadelphia with six goals and 17 assists (23-points) in 91 games.

Today, Gustafsson is the captain for Luleå HF (SHL) with one goal and 18 assists (19-points) in his fourth season.

Type S Dash Cams

Canada:

            Corban Knight (C)- played three seasons with the Phantoms (2016-19) with 31 goals and 56 assists (87-points). In Philadelphia, Knight played 23 games with one goal and three assists (4-points). Today, Knight plays for the Avangard Omsk (KHL) played 47 games with 18 goals and 30 assists (48-points) in his second season.

Jordan Weal (C/W)- played one season with the Phantoms (2016-17), scoring 15 goals and 32 assists (47-points). Weal played 124 games in four seasons, with the Philadelphia Flyers scoring 19 goals and 23 assists (42-points).

Today, Weal plays for the Ak Bars Kazan (KHL) with 12 goals and 18 assists (30-points) in his first season.

Tyler Wotherspoon (D) played two seasons with the Phantoms (2019-20, 2020-21) with eight goals and 36 assists (44-points) in 78 games. Today, Wotherspoon plays for the Utica Comets (AHL), an affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, with one goal and nine assists (10-points) in 28 games for the Comets.
