Edmonton Elks re-sign DL Antonio Simmons and DB Tyree Robinson

On Monday, the Edmonton Elks re-signed defensive lineman Antonio Simmons and defensive back Tyree Robinson to one-year contract extensions through the 2022 season.

Antonio Simmons played 23 games in two seasons with the Alouettes. He had 52 tackles, five sacks, and one forced fumble. Simmons was acquired from the Elks for quarterback Trevor Harris and played four games with seven tackles and one sack.

He played college football at Georgia Tech for four years (2014-17) with 83 tackles and seven sacks. In 2018, he tried out for the Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tyree Robinson played safety at the University of Oregon. In four years with the Ducks, he played in 52 games with 201 tackles, two sacks, 23 passes, defended four fumble recoveries, and six interceptions.

He returned an interception for a 100-yard touchdown in the Las Vegas Bowl in his senior year, but the Ducks lost 38-28 against Boise State. In 2017, he won the Todd Doxey Award (Team Award for Character and Service).

After college, Robinson went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys and spent the season on the practice squad. In December, he was signed off the Cowboys practice squad by the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers released him in August of 2019.

In 2020, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. After the cancellation of the season, he opt-out of his contract. He later resigned with the Tiger-Cats in October 2020 but was released in July of 2021 then signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
