On Monday, the Toronto Argonauts re-signed CFL East All-Star McLeod Bethel-Thompson to a one-year contract extension through the 2022 season.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson played 14 games in 2021 with 203 completions for 2,303 yards, 12 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and ten carries for 71 yards. This will be Thompson’s fifth season with the Argonauts.

There are hundreds of reasons to sign back…unfinished business, a commitment to excellence from the organization, an opportunity to deepen the bonds of brotherhood,” said Thompson. “At the end of the day, it comes down to one: (Argos GM) Michael “Pinball” Clemons. He epitomizes championship DNA. Last year we established a standard of winning, and this year is about raising it to the “Pinball” level.”

In four seasons (2017-19, 2021) with the Argonauts, Thompson played 56 games with 738 completions for 8,530 yards, 47 touchdowns, 34 interceptions, 58 carries for 347 yards, and two touchdowns. Thompson was a backup quarterback to Ricky Ray when the Argo’s won the Grey Cup in 2017.

Before joining the Argonauts, Thompson played in the Arena Football League for the San Jose SaberCats and the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League. In the NFL, Thompson was with the San Francisco 49ers twice, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Minnesota Vikings. In 2016, Thompson was on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice squad.
