On Thursday, the Calgary Stampeders re-signed defensive back Branden Dozier to a one-year contract extension through the 2022 season. Dozier was scheduled to be a free agent next week.
Branden Dozier (28-years-old) played 14 games in 2021 with 49 tackles, 17 special teams tackles, one sack, and one interception. This will be Dozier’s second year in Calgary.
“Branden is a versatile player who made strong contributions to our defense and our special-teams unit last season,” said John Hufnagel, Stampeders President, and General Manager. “We’re pleased that he has chosen to continue his career with the Stampeders.”
Branden Dozier tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers in rookie mini-camp but was not signed. Dozier spent his first two seasons at Butler County Community College, making 90 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and a half-sack. He helped the Grizzlies win back-to-back conference championships with a 20-3 record.
Then, Dozier transferred to UNC Charlotte, playing 22 games in two seasons (2014-15) with 135 tackles, two interceptions, 15 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries.
After not being signed by the Steelers, Dozier signed with the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. He played 35 games in two seasons (2017-18) in Montreal with 150 tackles, 33 special teams tackles, two sacks, five interceptions, one touchdown, and two forced fumbles.
In 2019, Dozier went to the BC Lions, playing 16 games with 70 tackles, seven special teams tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.
