On Sunday, the Calgary Stampeders re-signed defensive back Jonathan Moxey and wide receiver Nick Holley to one-year contract extensions. Both players were set to become free agents on Tuesday.
Jonathan Moxey (27-years-old) played 13 games in 2021 with 24 tackles, four special teams tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown in his second season in Calgary. In his first season in 2019, Moxey played five games with two tackles and two special teams tackles.
Moxey on returning to the Stampeders said, “I thank God for the opportunity to play this game. Let’s honor Him by striving to be our best.”
Moxey signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent from Boise State and made the practice squad. After Tampa Bay, Moxey was on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad for two seasons.
At Boise State, Moxey played 40 games in three seasons (2014-16) with 122 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, 33 passes defended one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. In 2016, he was named to All-Mountain West Second Team.
“Jonathan was very good during the regular season in 2021 and exceptional in our playoff game,” said John Hufnagel, President and General Manager of the Stampeders. “His versatility as a defensive back will provide us with options when we go into our 2022 training camp, and getting him re-signed is an important step in solidifying our secondary and defense.”
Nick Holley (27-years-old) played three games in his first season with ten catches for 105-yards. The Kent State product made a name for himself in the XFL for the Houston Roughnecks, playing five games with 28 catches for 267 yards, two touchdowns, and two carries for 12 yards.
At Kent State, Holley played 28 games in five seasons (2013-17) with 367 carries for 1,776 yards, 14 touchdowns, 47 catches for 380 yards, and five touchdowns.
In his last two seasons, he played quarterback with 81 completions for 974-yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
