On Saturday, the Edmonton Elks re-signed six players, including wide receiver Derel Walker to one-year contract extensions.
Derel Walker (30-years-old) played 11 games in 2021 with 44 catches for 531 yards. This will be Walker’s sixth season in Edmonton.
Walker signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent from Texas A&M. Walker was cut by the Titans and played for the Omaha Mammoths of the FXFL in 2014. In 2015, he signed with the Eskimos, playing 49 games in two stints (2015-16, 2017-18) with 297 catches for 4,208 yards, 26 touchdowns, five carries for 38 yards, and one touchdown.
During those two stints, Walker helped the Eskimos win the 2015 Grey Cup in Winnipeg, along with winning CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award, CFL All-Star (2015,2016), and CFL West All-Star three times (2015-16, 2018).
In between those two stints, Walker tried out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was released. In 2019, Walker signed with the Toronto Argonauts, playing 15 games with 65 catches for 1,040 yards and six touchdowns.
In addition to Walker, the Elks re-signed WR Charles Nelson (Oregon), WR Dionte Sykes (Colorado State-Pueblo), DB Floyd Redfield (Guelfi Firenze-IFL), DL Darius Royster (North Carolina Central), and DB Jeawon Taylor (Florida).
