On Sunday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed former Montreal Alouettes quarterback Matthew Shiltz and former Wake Forrest quarterback Jamie Newman to one-year contracts.
Matthew Shiltz (29-years-old) played 11 games for the Alouettes in 2021 with 49 of 78 completions for 760-yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions, 18 carries for 85 yards, and one touchdown. He was released by the Alouettes last Friday.
Shiltz spent four seasons with the Alouettes, playing 50 games with 145 of 237 completions for 1,866 yards, eight touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 50 carries for 313-yards and two touchdowns.
Matthew Shiltz played 29 games in four seasons at Butler University (2012-15) with 324-552 completions for 4,042 yards, 29 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 175 carries for 862 yards, and two touchdowns.
Shiltz also caught four passes for 32-yards and two touchdowns. In 2015, Shiltz was named 2015 First Team Academic All-PFL, 2015 PFL Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, and 2015 All-PFL Second Team.
Jamie Newman (24-years-old) recently tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 as an undrafted free agent from Wake Forrest.
At Wake Forrest, Newman played 21 games in three seasons (2017-19) with 306-506 completions for 3,959 yards, 35 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 245 carries for 826 yards, and ten touchdowns. Newman transferred to Georgia but opted out due to COVID-19.
