On Monday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders released defensive lineman Jonathan Woodard to pursue an opportunity in the NFL.
Jonathan Woodard (28-years-old) played 14 games in 2021 with 21 tackles, one special teams tackle, ten sacks and two forced fumbles in only one season in Saskatchewan.
The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Woodard in the seventh round (226th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft from Central Arkansas. However, he missed his rookie year after tearing his Achilles tendon in training camp.
Jonathan Woodard also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills. In Miami, Woodard played six games in 2018 with ten tackles and one sack.
At Central Arkansas, Woodard played 35 games in three seasons (2013-15) with 140 tackles, 23.5 sacks, one interception, three passes defended, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and three special teams blocks.
The Roughriders retain his rights with the release should he return to the CFL through the 2022 season.
