On Thursday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders released linebacker DeMarquis Gates. This comes after the Roughriders signed Larry Dean, Darnell Sankey, and Derrick Moncrief.
DeMarquis Gates (25-years-old) played five games in 2021 with five tackles, three special teams tackles, and one forced fumble.
Before joining the Roughriders, Gates signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent from Ole Miss. He also had stints with the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings.
Gates played 49 games in four seasons (2014-17) at Ole Miss with 282 tackles, six sacks, nine passes defended, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
In 2019, Gates played eight games for the Memphis Express (AAF) with 72 tackles, one sack, and five forced fumbles. Then in 2020, he played eight games for the Houston Roughnecks (XFL) with 32 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception.
