Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-sign CFL All-Star DB Deatrick Nichols

On Monday, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed defensive back Deatrick Nichols to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season.

Deatrick Nichols (27-years-old) played 12 games in 2021 with 43 tackles, three special teams tackles, one sack, and three interceptions in his first season in Winnipeg, helping them win their second consecutive Grey Cup championship. In 2021, he was named CFL All-Star and CFL West All-Star.

Nichols signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent from South Florida in 2018. At South Florida, Nichols played 50 games in four seasons (2014-17) with 175 tackles, one sack, 11 interceptions, 35 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

During his four years with the Bulls, Nichols was named to the AAC First Team All-Conference twice (2015, 2017) and AAC Second Team All-Conference (2016).

In Arizona, Nichols played two games on special teams for the Cardinals with one tackle. After being among the final cuts in 2019, Nichols signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL in 2020. Nichols made an immediate impact, playing five games with 24 tackles, three interceptions, and one sack.
