On Tuesday night, the Reading Royals (23-12-5-1) were at WesBanco Arena against the Wheeling Nailers (26-18-1). The Royals had a two-goal lead slip away in the third period.
Garrett McFadden scored 48-seconds into the game for the Royals in the first period to take a 1-0. The Nailers tied it up at 13:09 by Brandon Saigeon. Anthony Gagnon would get the lead back for the Royals 2-1. The score was 2-1 after one period of play.
No goals were scored in the second period. In the third period, Thomas Ebbing extended the Royals lead to 3-1 at 9:45. Then, the Nailers stormed back to tie the game 3-3 by Justin Almeida twice to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Patrick Watling at 2:03 gave the Nailers a 4-3 win. The Royals finished the night with 16 shots, 1/2 on the power-play, and Hayden Hawkey made 37 of 41 saves.
