Calgary Stampeders signs three defensive linemen

On Thursday, the Calgary Stampeders signed defensive linemen Connor McGough, Nik D’Avanzo, and George Obinna.

Connor McGough (26-years-old) joins the Stampeders after playing three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played 51 games with 14 tackles, 33 special teams tackles, one sack, and two forced fumbles.

McGough played 26 games in four seasons (2013-16) at the University of Calgary with 67 tackles and nine sacks. He is a three-time Canada West All-Star and part of two Hardy Cup championship teams with the Dinos.

Nik D’Avanzo (26-years-old) was with the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football Leagues for two seasons in 2020 and 2021. He tried out for the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent from New Mexico.

D’Avanzo played 49 games in three seasons (2013-16) at New Mexico with 198 tackles, 11 sacks, one forced fumble, and four fumble recoveries.

George Obinna (25-years-old) was on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad in 2021. He played in one preseason game with two tackles.

Obinna played 46 games in five seasons (2015-19) at Sacramento State with 136 tackles, 33.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. In 2017, he was named first-team All-Big Sky at defensive end.
