Calgary Stampeders signs two players, activates Trey Matthews from the retired list

On Friday, the Calgary Stampeders signed fullback William Langlais and defensive lineman Shaq Smith. In addition, the Stampeders activated linebacker Trey Matthews from the retired list.

William Langlais (31-years-old) played 12 games in 2021, with one catch for five yards and four tackles on special teams.

This will be his seventh season in Calgary after the Stampeders drafted him in the third round (27th pick) in 2015. Langlais has in 88 games with 14 catches for 194-yards, one carry for five yards, 59 tackles, and one touchdown.

Shaq Smith (24-years-old) was with the New Orleans Saints in 2021. Smith played 28 games in two seasons (2017-18) at Clemson with 29 tackles, one sack, and one interception.

Smith transferred to Maryland for his last two seasons, playing 12 games with 24 tackles, one sack, and four pass breakups.

Trey Matthews (27-years-old) signed with the Stampeders on January 25th, 2021. However, on May 20th, the Stampeders placed him on the retired list after Matthews suffered an injury during offseason training.

Before joining the Stampeders, Matthews signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2018 from Auburn. He was on the practice squads for the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Green Bay Packers.

Matthews played 36 games in three seasons (2015-18) at Auburn with 181 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
