The Reading Royals (26-126-1) won their third game in a row Saturday night at the Huntington Center for the first of two games against the Toledo Walleye (33-11-1-2).
There were no goals scored in the first two periods. In the third period, Royals forward Trevor Gooch scored at 6:41 to make it a 1-0. At 7:34, Brandon Schultz tied the game for the Walleye 1-1. Then at 14:39, Mason Millman put the Royals back in the lead 2-1.
At 16:23, Dominic Cormier added an insurance goal for a 3-1 lead. With under two minutes left, Trevor Gooch scored his second goal of the game with an empty-net goal for a 4-1 win. The Royals finished the game with 25 shots, 0/5 on the power-play, and Hayden Hawkey scored 39 of 40 saves.
The Royals are back at the Huntington Center for game two against the Toledo Walleye tomorrow at 5:15 pm.
