The Reading Royals (27-12-6-1) won their fourth game in a row and swept the Toledo Walleye (33-12-1-2) on Sunday at the Huntington Center.
The Royals took a 1-0 lead at 6:58 by Brad Morrison with a power-play goal. Then at 7:17, Brayden Low extended the Royals lead to 2-0. At 11:51, Trevor Gooch added another goal for the Royals to make it 3-0. The Royals led 3-0 after one period.
In the second period, Royals forward Anthony Gagnon scored a power-play at 7:45 to make it 4-0. It was the only goal scored in the second period.
In the third period, there were no goals scored until 16:47, when Keeghan Howdeshell ended the shutout 4-1. Almost two minutes later, Brandon Hawkins cut the Royals lead in half 4-2 with under two minutes left in the game.
After the Walleye pulled their goalie Billy Christopoulos, Trevor Gooch scored an empty-net goal to seal the game 5-2. It was Gooch’s second goal of the game. The Royals defeated the Walleye 5-2.
The Royals finished the game with 19 shots, 2/5 on the power-play, and Logan Flodell made 32 of 34 saves.
