The Reading Royals (30-12-6-2) saw their seven-game winning streak end Wednesday night against the Adirondack Thunder (21-28-2) at Santander Arena.
There were no goals scored in the first period. In the second period, Thunder forward Luke Stevens put Adirondack up 1-0 at 13:43. With less than a minute left, Royals defenseman Garrett McFadden scored a power-play goal that tied the game 1-1.
Twenty-five seconds into the third period, Adirondack forward Tyler Irvine scored a power-play goal that put the Thunder back up 2-1. Then at 5:29, Reading forward Thomas Ebbing tied the game 2-2.
At 7:39, Reading defenseman Mike Chen put the Royals up 3-2. However, Thunder forward Nick Rivera scored a shorthand goal that tied the game 3-3 at 13:31. The game went to overtime.
No one scored in overtime, and the game went to a shootout. Thunder forward Tyler Irvine scored the only goal in the shootout that helped the Thunder beat the Reading Royals 4-3.
The Royals finished the night with 30 shots, 1/7 on the power-play, and Logan Flodell made 31 of 34 saves.
The Royals head back to Wesbanco Arena for two games against the Wheeling Nailers starting Saturday at 7:10 pm.
