Ottawa Redblacks signs three players, including former Eagles DB Denzel Rice

The Ottawa Redblacks signed three players on Thursday, including former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Denzel Rice.

Denzel Rice (28-years-old) played for the Blues (TSL) in 2021. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Rice played for regular-season games with the Eagles in 2015. In 2016, he played three games for the Houston Texans with nine tackles.

Then in 2018, he played 12 games for the Buffalo Bills with five tackles, one pass breakup, and one interception.

Rice played 50 games in four seasons (2011-14) at Coastal Carolina with 112 tackles, one interception, 25 pass breakups, and one block on special teams.

In addition to Rice, the Redblacks signed defensive lineman Jhaustin Thomas and defensive lineman Trevon McSwain.

Jhaustin Thomas (28-years-old) was with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2021 but did not play a game. In 2019, he played 11 games for the Toronto Argonauts with 14 tackles and one sack. Before the CFL, Thomas tried out for the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, and Denver Broncos.

Thomas played 20 games in two seasons (2015-16) at Iowa State with 38 tackles, four sacks, one interception, and one pass breakup. In 2016, Thomas was selected to the Second-Team All-Big 12. Before Iowa State, Thomas went to Trinity Valley CC for two seasons with 55 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in 12 games played.

Trevon McSwain (25-years-old) tried out for the Chicago Bears in 2021. McSwain played 49 games in four seasons (2016-19) at Duke University with 102 tackles, 8.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and five forced fumbles.
