On Friday, Edmonton Elks linebacker Nakas Onyeka announced his retirement after four seasons in the CFL.
Nakas Onyeka (27-years-old) played four games with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2021 with two tackles and one tackle on special teams.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Onyeka in the fifth round (36th pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft. Onyeka played 34 games in three seasons (2015-17) in Toronto with 14 tackles, 30 tackles on special teams, two sacks, and one forced fumble.
In 2021, he signed with the Blue Bombers and played two games before returning to the practice squad. After he was released, Onyeka went to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Nakas Onyeka played 38 games in four seasons (2013-16) at Wilfred Laurier University with 194 tackles, nine sacks, nine pass blocks, seven forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one interception.
He was part of the 2016 Wilfred Laurier’s Yates Cup championship team, named First Team All-Canadian, OUA’s Men’s First Team All-Star, and won the OUA’s President’s Award as the conference’s top defender.
