The Reading Royals (34-13-6-2) defeated the Adirondack Thunder (24-31-2) Saturday night with a 5-2 win in game two at the Santander Arena.
Two minutes and fifty-two seconds into the first period, Frank DiChiara (10) put the Royals up 1-0. Jackson Cressey and Jared Brandt assisted the goal.
In the second period, Royals forward Trevor Gooch (25) scored a power-play goal at 1:59 for a 2-0 lead. Brad Morrison and Garret Cockerill assisted Gooch’s goal. At 7:06, Reading defenseman Mason Millman (5) scored a goal, extending the Royals lead 3-0. Jared Brandt and Grant Cooper assisted Millman’s goal.
Then in a span of two minutes, the Thunder got back into the game, scoring two goals by Shane Harper and Blake Thompson to make it 3-2 Royals.
At 17:11, Royals forward Brad Morrison (15) got one of the goals back 4-2. Patrick Bajkov assisted Morrison’s goal. Forty-seven seconds later, Jacob Pritchard (15) scored a goal for the Royals that made it 5-2 with an assist from Thomas Ebbing.
There were no goals scored in the third period, and the Royals won the game 5-2. They finished the night with 33 shots, 1/5 on the power-play, and Pat Nagle made 26 of 28 saves.
