The Reading Royals (36-14-6-2) swept the Worcester Railers (27-25-4-2) Wednesday night at the Santander Arena with a 3-2 win.
A minute and nineteen seconds into the first period, Worcester forward Steve Jandric (2) put the Railers up 1-0. Forty seconds later, Reading forward Frank DiChiara (11) tied the game for the Royals 1-1 with an assist from Jackson Cressey.
A minute later, Reading forward Trevor Gooch (29) put the Royals up 2-1 with assists from Garret Cockerill and Hayden Hawkey.
At 4:22, Reading forward Thomas Ebbing (24) extended the Royals lead to 3-1 with assists by Kenny Hausinger and Jacob Pritchard. The Royals led 3-1 after one period.
There were no goals scored in the second period. Worcester pulled goalie Colton Ellis for an extra attacker with under a minute left in the third period.
Worcester forward Reece Newkirk (10) scored for the Railers to cut the Royals lead to 3-2. Max Newton and Steve Jandric assisted Newkirk’s goal.
The Royals finished the night with 24 shots, 0/2 on the power-play, and Hayden Hawkey made 16 of 18 saves.
