The Reading Royals (36-16-6-2) were swept by the Norfolk Admirals (22-34-2-3) on Saturday night 5-3 at the Santander Arena.
With under four minutes in the first period, Royals forward Thomas Ebbing (25) scored a shorthand goal for a 1-0 lead. At 19:02, the Admirals tied the game 1-1 by Joe Widmar (10) with assists from Sam Thibault and Alex Tonge.
Six minutes and thirty-eight seconds into the second period, Admirals forward Cody Milan (13) scored a power-play goal. Norfolk took a 2-1 lead with assists from Alex Tonge and Christian Hausinger.
With less than two minutes in the second period, Admirals forward Chase Harwell (4) extended Norfolk’s lead to 3-1 with assists from Christian Hausinger and Sam Thibault.
With forty-four seconds left, Royals forward Thomas Ebbing (26) scored his second goal, which cut Norfolk’s lead to 3-2 with assists from Garret Cockerill and Mason Millman.
In the third period, Royals forward Patrick Bajkov (22) tied the game 3-3 with under four minutes left in the game. Mason Millman and Trevor Gooch assisted Bajkov’s goal.
However, with less than a minute left, Norfolk forward Noah Corson (17) broke the tie 4-3 with assists from Joe Widmar and Christian Hausinger. Two seconds later, Alex Tonge (26) scored an empty-net goal to seal the game 5-3. Marly Quince assisted Tonge’s goal.
The Royals finished the night with 29 shots, 0/1 on the power-play, and Logan Flodell made 21 of 25 saves.
