The Reading Royals (37-16-6-2) got back on the winning track Sunday afternoon at Santander Arena with a 4-1 win over the Worcester Railers (29-26-4-2). The win marked head coach Kirk McDonald’s 150th career win as an ECHL coach.
One minute and three seconds into the first period, the Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Thomas Ebbing (27). Brayden Low and Jacob Pritchard assisted Ebbing’s goal.
Then with under eight minutes left, the Railers tied it up 1-1 by Charlie Spetz (3) with an assisted by Anthony Repaci.
In the second period, the Royals took a 2-1 during the Railers’ power-play with a shorthand goal by Brayden Low (15) with assists from Thomas Ebbing and Will MacKinnon. At 13:19, the Royals extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal by Frank DiChiara (12) with an assist from Kenny Hausinger.
With under three minutes left in the third period, Thomas Ebbing (28) scored an empty-net goal to seal the game with a 4-1 win. Trevor Gooch and Garret Cockerill assisted Ebbing’s goal. It was Ebbing’s second goal of the game.
The Royals finished the afternoon with 32 shots, 0/2 on the power-play, and Logan Flodell made 19 of 20 saves.
