Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Genard Avery signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.
Genard Avery (26-years-old) played 16 games in 2021 with 41 tackles and one sack. Avery spent three seasons with the Eagles (2019-21), who acquired him from the Cleveland Browns on October 28th, 2019, for a 2021 fourth-round pick.
Avery had 57 tackles, three sacks, and one pass breakup with the Eagles in 37 games. The Cleveland Browns drafted Avery in the fifth round (150th pick) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Grenada, Mississippi, product played four seasons at Memphis (2014-17) with 232 tackles, 45.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He holds the Tigers’ single-season record with 22 tackles for loss in 2017.
Avery is a two-time First Team All-AAC (2016, 2017). During his four years at Memphis, the Tigers went to four bowl games, going 1-4. The only bowl win Memphis won with Avery was the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl in a 55-48 win over BYU.
