The Philadelphia Stars signed former Merrimack offensive lineman Clay Legault and tight end Bug Howard on Thursday. The Stars released offensive tackle Lene Maiava.
Clay Legault (23-years-old) played 32 games in four seasons at Merrimack College (2017-20). Legault was the team captain in his senior year and played at right tackle. In his freshman year, Legault helped Merrimack’s offense rank second in the NE10 in total yards per game (412.9) and rushing yards per game (144.6).
Bug Howard (27-years-old) was drafted by the Stars in the thirty-fourth round (269th pick). Howard was with the Buffalo Bills in 2021 on their practice squad. Howard had stints with the Colts, Browns, Panthers, Broncos, and Jaguars.
Howard played 53 games in four seasons (2013-16) at North Carolina with 146 catches for 2,048 yards and 18 touchdowns. In 2019, he played for the Atlanta Legends of the AAF, catching 17 passes for 220-yards.
Lene Maiava (29-years-old) was drafted by the Stars in the Supplemental Draft. Maiava played four games for the Los Angeles Wildcats (XFL) in 2020. In 2019, he started one game for the Arizona Hotshots (AAF).
Maiava played 42 games in four seasons (2012-15) at Arizona. In his senior year, the Wildcats had three 600-yard rushers in the same season for the first time in school history. The Wildcats’ offense averaged 494.9 yards per game and 37.4 points per game.
