The USFL kicked off its 2022 season at Protective Stadium Saturday night between the New Jersey Generals (0-1) and the Birmingham Stallions (1-0). This is the first time since 1985 that the USFL played a game.
Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough went 5/10 for 55-yards, one touchdown, one interception, and three carries for nine yards. Meanwhile, backup quarterback J’Mar Smith went 11/21 for 156-yards, one touchdown, three carries for 13-yards, and one touchdown.
Birmingham Stallions wide receiver Osirus Mitchell and tight end Cary Angeline combined for seven catches for 131-yards and two touchdowns.
For New Jersey, quarterback Luis Perez went 13/18 for 143-yards and two touchdowns. Generals’ backup quarterback De’Andre Johnson was 3/8 for 59-yards, 12 carries for 98-yards, and one touchdown. Generals’ kicker Nick Rose was 1/3, including a 47-yard field goal.
Next Friday, the New Jersey Generals battle the Michigan Panthers at 8 pm on USA Network, while the Birmingham Stallions play the Houston Gamblers next Saturday at 7 pm on FS1. Tickets for those games can be purchased thanks to our friends at StubHub.
