Ottawa Redblacks signs four players, including former Catamounts QB Tyrie Adams

The Ottawa Redblacks signed four players on Monday, including former Western Carolina quarterback Tyrie Adams. The other signings are offensive lineman Matthew Derks, Obinna Nwankwo, and wide receiver Brandon Arconado.

Tyrie Adams (24-years-old) played for the Salina Liberty (CIF) for one season, completing 83-117 passes for 944-yards, 25 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He led the Liberty to a 13-2 record, and the team lost the CIF Championship game to the Omaha Beef by one point. Adams was hired as a running-backs coach for Dodge City Community College.

Adam played four seasons at Western Carolina (2016-19) with 739-1,172 completions for 8,978-yards, 64 touchdowns, 32 interceptions, 594 carries for 2,547-yards, 18 touchdowns, and two catches for ten yards in 44 games.

When his collegiate career was over, he was Western Carolina’s all-time leader in career completions (739), pass attempts (1,172), passing yards (8,978), passing touchdowns (64), and total offense yards (11,525).

Matthew Derks (23-years-old) played five seasons at Delaware State (2017-21). In 2018, he helped pave the way as the Hornets were ranked second in MEAC in rushing with 187.9 yards per game (2067 yards total). The Redblacks drafted Derks in the sixth round (49th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft.

Obinna Nwankwo (23-years-old) played four games as a defensive lineman at Mercer (2021) with three tackles and one sack.

Before Mercer, Nwankwo played three seasons at Florida A&M (2016-18). He was a First Team All-MEAC (2018) and Third Team All-MEAC (2017). Nwankwo was a three-year starter for the Rattlers. After Florida A&M, he transferred to Florida International (2020), playing in five games.

Brandon Arconado (23-years-old) played three seasons at Washington State (2017-19) with 82 catches for 1,182-yards and eight touchdowns in 30 games.
