Nick Maton scores two runs in IronPigs win

On Tuesday night, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (6-7) returned to Coca-Cola Park to start a six-game homestand against the Rochester Red Wings.

On the mound for Lehigh Valley was Colton Eastman (0-1, 5.87 ERA), while the Red Wings started Ben Braymer (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

The action picked up in the bottom of the third inning, with runners on the corners for IronPigs center fielder Odubel Herrera. Herrera grounded out to third base, scoring a run that made it 1-0 for Lehigh Valley. Herrera was there on a rehab assignment.

Two batters later, IronPigs’ first baseman Darick Hall singled to center field, scoring another run for a 2-0 lead. Then, after IronPigs left fielder Jorge Bonifacio walked, shortstop Nick Maton doubled to left field, scoring two more runs for a 4-0 lead.

At the top of the fourth inning, with a runner on second base, Red Wings’ third baseman Richard Urena reached first base on a fielding error by Yairo Munoz, scoring a run that cut the IronPigs lead 4-1.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs starter Colton Eastman was done after four innings, allowing one hit, one run, two walks, and seven strikeouts.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on first base. IronPigs right fielder Roman Quinn doubled to left field, scoring a run that made it 5-1. Next, Quinn made it to third base. Finally, Red Wings catcher Tres Barrera tried to pick off Quinn. The ball got away, and Quinn scored, making it 6-1.

Moving ahead to the top of the ninth inning, Dillon Maples closed out the game for the IronPigs. With runners on first and second base with two outs, Maples got Red Wings shortstop Luis Garcia to ground out to second baseman Yairo Munoz, ending the game. The IronPigs beat the Red Wings 6-1.

The win went to IronPigs relief pitcher Aaron Barrett (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 SO), and the loss went to Red Wings starter Ben Braymer (2.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 SO).
