The BC Lions signed former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Elijah Qualls and former Virginia running back Taquan Mizzell on Thursday.
Elijah Qualls (27-years-old) played for the Linemen (TSL) and tried out for the New York Giants in 2021. In 2020, Qualls played for the DC Defenders (XFL) with nine tackles.
The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Qualls in the sixth round (214th pick) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played one season with the Eagles making three tackles. In his rookie year, he earned a Super Bowl ring after the Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl XLII.
After the Eagles, Qualls spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played four seasons at Washington (2013-16) with 78 tackles and 7.5 sacks in 39 games. In his senior year, Qualls had 38 tackles and three sacks. After the season, he was named to the First-Team All-Pac 12.
Taquan Mizzell (28-years-old) spent two seasons with the New York Giants (2020-21) on the practice squad. Before the Giants, Mizzell tried out for the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.
Mizzell played four seasons at Virginia (2013-16) with 460 carries for 2,075-yards, 12 touchdowns, 195 catches for 1,560-yards, and seven touchdowns. He is the only player in ACC history with 1,500+ career rushing yards and 1,500+ receiving yards. He ranked 16th in all-time rushing (2,075) and 12th in receiving yards (1,560) in school history.
