HIGHLIGHTS: Birmingham Stallions 33, Houston Gamblers 28

Stallions wide receiver Marlon Williams catches a pass and scores a touchdown

On Saturday night, the Birmingham Stallions (2-0) defeated the Houston Gamblers (1-1) in front of the home crowd at Protective Stadium 33-28.

Birmingham Stallions quarterback J’Mar Smith went 20/30 for 229 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and eight carries for 31 yards. Stallions’ running back CJ Marable led the team in rushing with 16 carries for 76 yards, one touchdown, and two catches for 20 yards.

Marlon Williams led Birmingham in receiving with three catches for 88 yards and one touchdown, while wide receiver Osirus Mitchell had three catches for 48 yards and one touchdown. Finally, the defense had two sacks, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, and one touchdown.

For the Gamblers, quarterback Clayton Thorson was 13/27 for 141 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, and two carries or 21 yards. Running back Mark Thompson led the Gamblers in rushing with 16 carries for 93 yards.

Gamblers’ wide receiver Tyler Simmons led the team in receiving with two catches for 53 yards and one touchdown. The Gamblers’ defense had one sack, one interception, four pass breakups, and one touchdown.
