On Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena, the Reading Royals (3-2) took one step closer to advancing to the next round of the ECHL playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Maine Mariners (2-3).
In the first period, the Royals took a 1-0 lead at 10:25 by Patrick Bajkov (1) with an assist from Trevor Gooch. However, with less than three minutes left, the Mariners tied it up 1-1 by Cameron Askew (3) with assists from Michael Kim and Alex Kile.
Three minutes and twenty-seven seconds into the second period, the Royals took a 2-1 lead by Frank DiChiara (2) with assists by Patrick Bajkov and Patrick McNally.
Nevertheless, the Mariners tied it up 2-2 at 5:55 by Alex Kile (2) with assists from Mathew Santos and Marc-Olivier Duquette.
Finally, in the third period, the Royals took the lead for good at 12:34 on a power-play goal by Thomas Ebbing (1) with assists from Brennan Saulnier and Mason Millman.
The Royals finished the night with 32 shots, 1/1 on the power-play, and Logan Flodell made 25 of 27 saves.
